
Trinidad-born hairstylist, Clem LueYat, based at his Brooklyn, New York hair salon has moved from high fashion hairstyles to pioneering his own techniques, the Unique Interlocking Hair Weave System and the Wrap Net Weaving System, now favored by most hair weavers. These accomplishments have helped Clem earn the title, “The Master HairWeaver of the World.”
LueYat’s career began at the age of 13 and in 1963, after completing a hairdressing course at Richard Henry’s School of Hairdressing, London, England. Clem returned to Trinidad to open his fi rst salon, which was extremely successful, providing hairdressing for the “who’s who” of Trinidad and Tobago helping his name to become synonymous with hair! His clientele included Carnival queen contestants and fashion models. In 1968 when Mahalia Jackson, the late great gospel singer, visited Trinidad, Clem styled Mahalia’s hair and she was very impressed. Clem has also served as personal stylist for Miss World 1966, Miss Universe 1977, Miss Universe 1998 (Wendy Fitzwilliams ), and Miss Universe 1999 (Miss Botswana Mpule Kwalagobe) whose hair was styled by Clem at the pageant in Trinidad.
In 1970, Clem immigrated to the US and within 2 years he opened another salon. His well-respected reputation in the hair business was earned over many years as he demonstrated his techniques and represented products from Ultra Sheen, Clairol, Revlon, Lustre-Silk, TCB, Janale and Avlon at hair shows such as the International Beauty Show in NYC and LA, Miami Hair Show, Dallas Beauty Show and others. He has also been featured in newspapers and magazines such as Sophisticates Black Hair, Passion, Modern Styles, Black Beauty & Hair UK, Black Elegance to name a few. SOPHISTICATE BLACK HAIR 17TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION in collaboration with AVLON PRODUCTS featured Clem and Neeko (Halle Berry’s hairdresser) in a four-page spread.
Clem operates a Full Service Salon with skilled operators, who he trained himself, and continues to teach his techniques and infl uences hundreds of hairstylists in the USA, Trinidad & Tobago and other countries.
